History
Takato was born in a rather normal family. His parents Takehiro and Mie were married and had the bakery. For a while, they were worried that they wouldn't get a kid. Then, the digitama came. They knew right there that they were going to have a child. The digitama didn't hatch until after Takato was born though. He was in the hospital nursery alone when the digitama hatched. No one would have expected the little digimon to be so attached to him.
The days went quickly and the boy grew older, yet neither of them spoke. More likely, the two couldn't remember anything other than being together was safe. It was the boy's first words actually. "Digimon," although it was rather babyish sounding. He managed to go on and say that his name was "Takato" mistakingly adding "mon" to the end of it ... or perhaps it was because he thought it would be nice to be a digimon also, just like his best friend.
They were together for a relatively long time. So, Takato found it rather odd when he finally digivolved to child level. He couldn't remember anything. It scared Takato, since he had pushed the digimon to digivolve. He had to explain everything to him. At the very least, he was glad that Guilmon had remembered the nickname he gave him back when they were younger.
He was a bit hesitant at first, but eventually they would have to go to school. Oh did he have his hands tied when he did that. Guilmon was just like a baby trapped in the body of an big digimon. It was hard for Takato to real him in and his guilt for pushing his partner grew with each passing day. He felt that this was all his fault and Yggdrasil was just paying him back for what he'd done.
Then Guilmon was gone. He had just turned his back for a second and the red dinosaur was nowhere to be found! Takato grew frantic running to find him when he stumbled upon a crowd and some screams. He quickly squeezed through the crowd and tried to see what was going on, silently hoping that it had nothing to do with Guilmon. It had. Guilmon was playing with the Tailmon, but apparently no one thought that. They ran out before he could get to them and when he finally got to them Guilmon was right about to blast the Tailmon to oblivion. Without even thinking, he stepped in front of Guilmon. Noticing the marks on his snout, he quickly but carefully pulled him to the restroom, ignoring the crowd around them.
Inside the restroom, he had to explain everything to Guilmon again. What he should do, what he shouldn't do. He didn't want to be mean, but he didn't want this to happen again. The whole time he spoke, he was feeling guilty but covered it up with a grin and a smile.
Over the next five years, Takato's guilt grew less and less. Guilmon really didn't change, even if he did forget what happened long ago. He was the same quirky digimon he always had and who knows, maybe there were some other digimon out there that did that.
... later
He saw Guilmon smile at him, but he couldn't help but look horrified. The hole on his chest ... and then he was gone. Takato fainted shortly after.
The next thing he knew, he woke up in a special hospital. An institute for people without digimon partners that have grown too unstable for normal conditions. They tried to explain to him that Guilmon was gone forever. He didn't understand. Guilmon just went for a walk and got lost again like he always did. He wasn't gone. Takato could feel it. Guilmon was alive and lost looking for him.
... and Takato wasn't going to let anyone stop him. He wasn't going to relieve the guilt he felt from when Guilmon first lost his memories. He wasn't going to let Guilmon suffer again. Instead, he was going to find Guilmon not stay in this place full of lies. He didn't gain super strength, but he managed to escape by disguising self as one of the children who came to visit their parents.
As soon as he got out ...
... to be continued.

Two years living after the death of one's digital partner is generally considered a great feat in Midgard. There's only one problem. He's gotten a tad bit off the deep end. In fact, he's wanted now for all the wrong reasons. He has completely denied the fact that his partner had died. Instead, Takato is set on believing that Guilmon had just gotten lost, and he has to find him.
