History
Phoenix was not to be named Phoenix at all, and as a matter of fact he was to take his father’s name…Orion. Phoenix was not an accident, or the product of a fling, he was actually planned (partially) for quite some time. Both his mother and father were what you could call the responsible types, both having good careers, ‘good’ heads on their shoulders, and probably over cautious. His father was a doctor, and his mother the dean of said hospital. In fact the two met and work, and though he spilled his coffee on her it was love at first sight. And so it would only make sense after they married, they would want a family, and so they tried….2 times. And each time, for reasons unknown to them, Phoenix’s mother miscarried. The couple was devastated, and were about to adopt, not wanting to go through the heartbreak of another child lost.
However one February evening, his mother became dizzy and collapsed on their sofa while entertaining, and of course she was rushed to the hospital, where she found out she was pregnant. The news was bracing, and rekindled the desire to have a child of their flesh and blood. But as the days, weeks, and months passed the thought of losing another child loomed over their conscience, and they grew worried and even scared. Their love for the unborn was only escalated when a Digitama appeared. To them it was an omen, both of previous miscarriages not even getting as far to receive one of the digital eggs. The two did all in their power to make sure everything in the pregnancy was going correctly, even going as far as weekly sonograms. They knew as medical professional that the odds of their baby surviving were slim to none, but they couldn’t rely on the statistics…not this time. They always heard of miracles happening in medicine…had they not deserved one? Then before they knew it, the nine months had come and gone, and his mother was rushed to the hospital.
She was in labor for an obscene amount of time, and never did she accept pain medication, afraid it would harm the baby in some way. Through all those hours, the Digitama seemed to be growing in strength, it slowly growing brighter and brighter. Phoenix’s mother shot exhausted glances between her husband and the egg…it was really happening. They were having the baby boy of their dreams. Finally when Phoenix was out, she smiled; there he was right in front of her. But he was quiet… She screamed…why was he quiet! She glanced at the egg, its once former state of brightness, quickly shut off like flipping the switch to lights. She began to scream, and thrash about…this couldn’t have happened, not again, not after making it this far. She screamed once again, this time to give her the baby, and they obliged.
She wept over her lifeless son, looking down at him, but he unable to look back up at her. She looked to her husband asking why, knowing he couldn’t answer her. His father hugged both his wife and baby, crying and kissing his wife, trying to comfort her. Then, a soft, harmonic ringing sound chimed through the room. Everyone looked around, looks of confusion taking residence on everyone’s faces. They had thought the egg would have been re-digitized by now, but instead it hatched. Immediately after the once lifeless baby, inhaled, life entering his body. They had gotten their miracle…in the form of finally having the child they so desperately wanted, and due to the fact that their baby came back from what was presumed to be death.
And so they named their son Phoenix, after the legendary bird that arose from the dead. Where ever Phoenix went his young digimon went (naturally), but the two were more inseparable than most had seen before. This bond being represented by a Platinum ring that the baby digimon arrived in this world with. In Phoenix’s younger years he would wear it looped through a necklace, until eventually fitting on his finger, where magically resized has Phoenix grew in size and strength. While just a young child, around two or three, he would carry the small Zerimon everywhere, and even cry if they were separated too long, and in turn Zerimon would bounce over and turn on the nightlight if ever Phoenix’s parents forgot to do so.
When he was about six, Zerimon digivolved for the first time, to a slightly bigger, yet just as cute Gummymon. Together the two thought they could conquer the world, going on mini little conquests to find hidden treasure (that his mother buried without him knowing) or go off to save the damsel in distress! Of course the damsel was a doll he found at the park, but still even little dollies needed rescuing! The two played together and had a grand childhood, but Phoenix found himself with very little friends. And though it was a pressing matter, he couldn’t care less because he had Gummymon, and that was all he needed, and as such his social skills fell behind.
Upon reaching his teen years, Gummymon digivolved again, his new common form being Pawn Chessmon. The two found it fitting, him being a knight to save the people around him. And this is when Chessmon first told him about Altgard (Digital World). At first the digimon introduced it as a make believe world where they saved the world together, but he gradually began to tell Phoenix that it was a real place and maybe they could visit it some time. And with that thought of actually saving people or even other digimon, he grew inspired to protect people…and so he started to, not just for pretend.

Quick Scan
Phoenix cherishes life be them human or digimon, and will stop at nothing to preserve such life. But that is what scares him…if he will stop at nothing, does that make him just as bad as the people causing such strife. If he knows no boundaries is he not an animal just like them? Phoenix feels like no matter how good he tries to be he can never escape the temptation of evil. And this is only reinforced with knowledge of the digital and human world. Both having stories of great angels that were sent to protect and give life, but instead they fell causing mayhem and discord.
